What a way to celebrate National Small Press month–Dragonfly Publishing, Inc. just announced their 2010 Picture Book contest!
Do you have a picture book manuscript ready for submission? Have you ever considered publishing with a small press? If you answered yes to these questions, then you should consider entering the 2010 DFP Picture Book contest. (alright, so I’m a little partial since I won last year’s contest but I’m living proof that you can win!) 
Contest Prizes:
1st Place: $100.00 plus a trophy and a possible book contract
2nd Place: $50.00
3rd Place: $30.00

Should you enter a writing contest

Have you ever entered a writing contest? If not, it’s something you really should consider.
I like to think of myself as sort of a poster child for contests! In 2009, I won the one page summary contest at Buried in the Slush pile (I got the opportunity to submit my middle-grade manuscript to Blooming Tree Press at a time when they’re not accepting submissions) , I took second place in The Children’s Writer’s nonfiction sports contest (that came with a monetary prize and mention in The Children’s Writer), and I won first place in the 2009 Dragonfly Publishing Inc. picture book contest (that came along with a publishing contract and I’m happy to say my picture book, The Bug That Plagued the Entire Third Grade, is being released this spring.)

Dragonfly Publishing, Inc. recently announced their 2009 Children’s Picture Book Writing Contest.

It’s sponsored by the Kittycat Books label of Dragonfly Publishing, Inc. and the prizes are as follows…
CONTEST PRIZES:
1st Place: $100.00 (US) plus a trophy and a possible book contract
2nd Place: $50.00 (US)
3rd Place: $30.00 (US)
CONTEST RULES:
Entrants must be US citizens, 18-years or older. Manuscripts must be unpublished and not under contract through the contest period. Entries must be postmarked by APRIL 1, 2009 and received absolutely no later than APRIL 15, 2009. Multiple entries are allowed. The entry fee is $10.00 per manuscript. Winners will be announced by May 15, 2009.
